Hello.
A Bit About Me
Tierra Fender is a Secondary Mathematics Specialist for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. Her responsibilities include writing curricula resources, creating and facilitating professional development (PD), and coaching 6-12th grade educators at nine schools across the district. This is her 12th year as an educator across four states. In addition to North Carolina, she taught and coached in Arizona, California, and New York.
Tierra is also working on her doctorate in Urban Mathematics Curriculum & Instruction at UNCC. For her M.Ed. in Educational Administration, she researched teacher collaboration on equitable group participation in middle school math classes. Research interests for Tierra include increasing student collaboration while learning mathematics, enhancing the PD experience for all participants, and using a strengths-based lens to increase learning. Her ultimate goal is to dismantle the narrow definition and linear progression of the mathematics education system.
